It’s really true.

Just so you know I started this a few weeks back...

Over on Mafus’ blog he talks about yesterday being his brother, Mike Wieringo’s 49th birthday. Had he lived that is because Mike passed away suddenly at the age of 44. It’s a bit stunning how death can arrive like that. Arrive and visit someone so young (especially when you are well past that age regarding the ‘young’ comment).

It just underscores the fact that there are no guarantees in this world how long your ride on the merry-go-round is going to last.

I think about these things often especially in those darker moments. Moments when I think about the human condition, about my condition and what the future holds for me or what I’m carrying around from my past.

It really is a gift in a lot of ways but it’s up to the person whether or not we cherish that gift.

Anyway, Mike Wieringo is gone but his blog is still there. If you were a fan of his before or recently maybe discovered his work I would urge you to take a look at that blog. First off, there is a ton of artwork there that has never seen the light of day outside of Mike’s blog and from what I am led to understand will not be seeing the light of day anytime soon either. So, if you want to see the most amazing artwork take a look.

Even more than that though, if you do take a gander at Mike’s blog, the thing you will discover is just what a good guy he was. When i was growing up, the world was a smaller place, comics were a smaller industry and being in New York I was lucky enough to meet some of the people who worked in the field as well as getting a chance at being up to the offices of some of the companies that produced those amazing printed flights of fancy. The thing that I carried with me all these years was how nice these people were, how encouraging the ones I met were.

Mike was like that, he was cut from the same cloth. And you know it really sucks that he’s gone.
